When I digest this question, the first thing that comes to mind is “what’s not in it for me?”, because the answer is everything.
As a Vancouver Islander and outdoors girl, born and raised on the water; I respect and cherish our natural resources and the abundant wildlife that we witness here in our communities, rivers, ocean and un-touched land. However, more and more our wetlands, waterways and environment at large are being affected by countless human driven fources and repercussions stemming from climate change and poor resource management on many different levels.
My goal is to never take our natural environment and wildlife for granted. My goal is to always work for a cause and not for applause. Ducks Unlimited Canada and its local chapters give me the opportunity to feel like I am giving back and making a difference in local areas as well as the country at large. Proving that outdoor enthusiasts care just as much or more about the natural world in which they choose to live in.
As an angler, new hunter and wilderness lover, we all have the tendency to want a big piece of the pie and a huge chunk of land and to visit untouched territories where there is an abundance of wild game, birds, insects, plants and rich soils… However, we forget that the less sprawling our cities and towns do, the better it is for our environment. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to live in a condo or a dense city, but by protecting park lands, streams and wetlands we are one step closer to slowing the sprawl of mankind and being the voice for our wildlife and resources.
My hope is that future generations can enjoy the outdoors and be able to hunt the odd salmon, trout, bird or wild game for nourishment, but to also practice safe “catch and release” methods or just enjoy walking and hiking in the serene and magical locations in BC and Canada as a whole.
I wish to help educate youth through multiple events to respect all living things and never take them for granted. To spend time outside and learn to connect with mother nature; for she is one of the greatest mother’s we all have access to if we just open our eyes, ears and hearts.
